Wow. I can't believe I waited so long to buy this chopper. Unfortunately, after almost 20 years of service, I brought our old mill to a standstill by overloading it too much. Due to my emotional attachment to her, I have tried many therapies, recipes and anecdotes over the past year without success. Desperate for a working paper shredder, I began looking for a replacement. Oh, but how can you replace such an important part of the family whose shortcomings are only due to age and abuse? However, I managed the enormous task of searching through hundreds of paper shredders listed with their various characteristics and shortcomings along with a large number of reviews. Until I just couldn't anymore. In a last-ditch effort to revive our ailing shredder, I bought several sheets of lube. Unfortunately, this wasn't the magic bullet our shredder needed, although they seem to have improved it somewhat. Too little too late. I was whining and feeling guilty about my lack of shredder durability, so I took the plunge and ordered this Aurora 1410MA shredder. It arrived quickly in very strong protective packaging and I hastily installed it in our guest room, out of sight and earshot of our old mill. With due diligence, I read the user manual so as not to make the same mistakes as the predecessor. In reality, the obvious and handy controls are easy enough to navigate for our cat to shred when needed. So, in all her shiny new glory, she sat in the middle of our guest room, waiting to take in a long list of personal information that we must constantly destroy. Over the weeks, I'd lugged stacks of credit card offers and random documents into the spare room to shred, while still feeding a sheet or two into the old shredder in between. Aurora is so quiet I never worried our old chopper would hear her. And one day it was time, the last test, so to speak. A replacement credit card has arrived in the mail! After activating the new card and deactivating the old card, I realized the time had come. I took the dead credit card to the guest room and stood in front of Aurora. Our old shredder never had the ability to destroy cards so it was a new experience and I thought about trying it. I could hear the heart-rending growl of our old, overloaded paper shredder echoing in my head. Finally I just got started. Dropped this dead card in the slot and. Oh God! Tycho Aurora chewed it and swallowed it like it was a walk in the park. I swear she licked her lips afterwards. It's decided that Aurora will stay. She met all of our expectations and exceeded many. She was a Keeper. I hugged her and went to my home office to pick up our old shredder. I loaded her in the car and cooed her the whole time over all those fabulous years of hard work and service. I bragged to her about the thousands upon thousands of successful scraps she had made over the years that I had taken her to the recycling center. I sat there for a few minutes praising before her all her virtues and how we appreciate her service for the last time. Then, with a heavy heart, I pulled it out of the car and carefully placed it on top of a pile of other recently abandoned electronics, and with a lump in my throat, I patted it gently and whispered my last goodbyes before turning and walking away. A house. Farewell, old friend. Rest in peace. Back home, Aurora must have felt a deep sadness inside me as I wheeled her into her new office, because as soon as I started feeding her the pile of papers that had grown over the past few weeks, she ate every piece of paper. while mumbling softly. It soon filled up and I was amazed at the removable container. It worked flawlessly and the content was shredded more efficiently than anything I've ever seen. I put her empty basket back in its place, patted it gently and smiled. Yes, the healing has begun and the acceptance of the Aurora is complete. We love her. She does everything her description says and we were pleasantly surprised by her quiet strength. We'll never forget our old chopper and hope Aurora outlasts her. Time will tell but for now we are a happy family again.
