This is a Roman centurion, they command their legions and don't fight much, if you're looking for a common soldier with a shield buy a Roman soldier minifigure. This product is great for Ancient Rome lovers like me and has all the details that are historically accurate except that the Roman soldiers' weapons are for the centurion.
