They are almost useless for most purposes without the Eddystone software. However, they are great for location tracking and other functions. I'm still playing around with them and trying to get them to work with friends' mobile billboard service. So far I'm afraid my outlook is not positive because there are too many different so-called protocols and only a few of them charge INCREDIBLE subscription fees, making them useless. I'm personally a huge privacy fanatic and hate marketing, but a friend of mine needed help and I tried to help. I knew Bluetooth's potential for abuse was bad, but what these things can do with the right configuration is pretty scary.
