The device is probably a counterfeit device. a garage that had cracks in the panel (which is a classic potential problem). His results, however, are pure rubbish. I was a bit suspicious from the start as it was very light. Well being light in itself is not a problem but my other gauge was much heavier and as a physicist I know how much the gauge should weigh and it was too light even though the design was extremely efficient. It's also suspicious as it was a cheaper model from an unknown brand like my other device. I turned it on first and after 24 hours it showed 4.1. It was a lot higher than my meter reading on the lower level which is odd but it could have been a garage. So I kept testing and the readings kept going down. It got to 3, then 2, then 1.5. Then I reset it to check and it showed EXACTLY the same picture. At 24 hours it was 4.1, then it dropped to 3, then 2, then 1.5. To double check, I brought my old meter upstairs and it read 0.5 - slightly lower than the 0.8 below. This is generally what I would expect unless the garage plate is a big deal. I then triple checked by buying another gauge from another company and it matched my old gauge very well (within 0.1 which is certainly good enough considering they don't match exactly same place, etc.). bought a Graphite test kit and found it matched two other devices. So I'm not sure if this unit has a built in radon detector and if it does it probably has very poor sensitivity and so it only ever starts at 4 which is good for the problem threshold and then gets closer over time a true reading. No matter what he does, he DEFINITELY doesn't do what he says. To try it out I reset it again and it showed just over 4 again which got lower over time. So basically don't buy this unless you want to get scared if you think you have a radon problem if you don't. or possibly provide an initial reassurance that if it is bad, it's not so bad.
