These are GREAT if you really want the thickest, strongest 1 foot cable you can find. This is exactly what I wanted for this project. The 5V ground is actually a separate wire, in other words it's not dependent on the woven shield (which is grounded) like some brands are. The power wires are indeed 22 AWG, but I would guess the data wires are 28 or so. But seriously, this is completely normal. For travel you might like something thinner and something smaller and lighter depending on your luggage/accessories etc. I doubt the micro usb connector will last longer than any other micro usb connector as the micro usb design specification is just awful (hence the new reversible USB-C connector is MUCH stronger) and nothing can be done to improve it and stay within spec. But other than that, I LOVE these hefty little cables.
