My first mistake: My window is a recessed garden window at arm's length from the counter. I used to have corded honeycomb shades, just pull the cord and it went up, no problem. The previous ones were a lot smaller too and these are very well made, they weigh a heck of a ton. Installation is simple and straightforward. For example, if the window could be walked on, you could stand next to it, that would be beautiful, they look great. However, lifting them is really very difficult. Put your hand under it, it really is an elevator. There is no handle. So if they're at the bottom, you'll have to climb over the bar first. Undressing is not easy either. Maybe it's mine but I suspect it's just a design, they aren't easy to raise or lower. Check out my pics, like I said, they look fine when closed, but it just doesn't work for me. They are also very large when fully retracted. They go up to 8 inches top to bottom which obscures most of the view, the previous type was only 2 inches. All in all, a great product for the right place. This isn't the place for me, I need a cord and something smaller. Another mistake I made was thinking it was an artificial tree but it isn't. ) All this to say that this is a great price, a very durable product and great looks. It's killing me to have to look for something else.
