Short lifespan! on halogen lamps

Everything about these lamps is right, except for the service life. So far I've been through 2 packs of six and received them 4 months ago (ie each bulb lasted about 2 months). The packaging says they last 2000 hours which I think is around 3 months but that could be under lab conditions in a temperature controlled "clean room". In real life there is no such happiness. My light is on all the time (I use it as a heater for my turtles) and is outside, albeit completely weatherproof. Since I first got them in February, the outdoor temperature swings have been pretty drastic (I live in Central California - so 25F low to 95F high this year). I think I'm still ahead. Compare this to buying expensive "reptilian heat lamps" that don't seem to last very long either. I think I need to lower my quality expectations since we no longer make lightbulbs in the US.
