These silicone plates are designed to improve grip and make opening sealed lids on jars or jars easier. I introduced the super flexible rubber grips that were given out as promotional items in the 70's and 80's. They had patterned textures that let you really press on the lid and be sure the pad wouldn't slip off as you spin. They probably had asbestos in them, so you can't find them anymore! At least I thought they would be. Instead, they're just pieces of smooth silicone; There are no ridges or patterns on either side. Therefore, their use does little to keep a stubborn or locked lid secure. When I received the package these "handles" were actually lying next to each other and were completely rigid and inflexible. Pulling them apart I found that the individual pieces are flexible enough to get onto the lid, but there is a slight grip not provided by your own wrist/hand. So if you're buying these to reduce the strain on your hands, you'll likely be disappointed. Trouble is, I can't find anything better than the good old days when every bank gave away working grips!
