Review on Stainless Franke CT 200 Filtration Chiller with Enhanced SEO by Paarvin Freedman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Heavy duty, mostly suitable for under sink and countertop filtration

I've had this unit for 12-15 years and it still looks exactly like the current picture. The car worked fine. I have a family of 5 and it never ran out of cold water, seems to hold at least a few cups. The noise is audible, although it is installed under the sink, but it is much quieter than our double minus refrigerators (which unfortunately do not have cold water). It works most of the time. I've never cut closet vents, rather the closet door is old and usually stays open a half inch which is perfect for the vent. This device requires some maintenance. The upper fan burns out about every 5 years. This is a standard sized computer fan, but the problem is that it's 110 volts. So it takes a bit of internet searching to find it, and it costs $50-$75. The exchange is easy. Simply lift the unit from under the sink, remove the case, and then remove and replace the fan. It can take an hour in total. Unfortunately after 12-15 years it seems to have lost its coolant, probably due to cracking after repeated temperature cycles. I'm assuming it's low on refrigerant because everything is working, but it's not cooling anywhere. I threw it away not realizing how expensive it was to replace (I think I bought it for $300). I will buy another. The water is cold and refreshing, much better than the water jug in the fridge. If my fridge had a cold water dispenser, I wouldn't need it. It is easy to install with plastic tubing and push-fit fittings. I have a canister filter built in, not sure if that matters at all. Never had a leak.

Pros
  • Chills up to 1 gallon of water per hour
Cons
  • Expensive
