Review on ๐Ÿ’ป Sabrent EC-NVME USB 3.1 Silver Aluminum Enclosure for M.2 NVMe SSD: High-Speed Data Transfer and Secure Storage Solution by Dorian Bharadwaj

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lightning over USB 3.0 and 3.1 gen2 but a bit clunky and clunky.

When tested with a Samsung NVME SSD connected to USB 3.0 and 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports, sequential read and write speeds were 440 MB/s and 970 MB/s, respectively. The performance was definitely impressive. It also kept the NVME drive cool all the time. I've also found that the Type-C adapter that came with the cable doesn't work and can cause the drive to hang in Windows when trying to recognize the drive when plugged into any Type-C port connected to my PC, including via NVIDIA. RTX graphics card, as well as a motherboard with a Type-C connector on board. The seller responded quickly and offered a solution. Everything looks good with this part. However, when I tried to do a pocket test (since I mainly use the NVME enclosure to replace a flash drive), it was impossible: this enclosure is too big and unwieldy. It's too close to the size of a 2.5" SATA enclosure, especially with the cable sticking out. For the latter reason I will have to send it back. I found another case here that is much smaller and doesn't require a cable and this one fits me better. The drive generates more heat at the case, but that's an expected trade-off for the smaller size. However, performance does not appear to be affected. If you have trouble removing the drive from the case after installation (because the adhesive is quite strong), run a heavy test like CrystalDiskMark and let the drive heat up to allow the adhesive to loosen. This allowed me to open the lid fairly easily.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Minor issues
