I've had several mic stands over the years and my favorite was the incredibly durable and training stand with the "Abus" name on its base. It also has an "AKG" stamp on the top clip. I searched in vain for more of these, but couldn't find another one anywhere. Turns out these things are made by K&M and I recently bought them from Revain. I perform a lot outdoors in a variety of settings from fixed stages to grass fields. This K&M tripod bridges the line between weight and strength - it's harder to lug around than many lighter tripods, but it's much stronger and will hold heavier condenser mics and iPads without tipping or sinking when the boom is extended. The base of the tripod is well constructed and has a good wide footprint. I haven't found a better portable mic stand - it's solid, durable and reliably withstands heavy use. That's a great thing!
