I've tried TWO of these cooling pads and they both sound the same. The fans hum and rattle like I've heard dying case fans do before, except they were brand new cooling pads. The fans blow up toward the bottom of the laptop. The mesh surface is made of metal while the rest of the device is made of plastic. The folding legs work well but break easily. There are also fold out tabs on the top to hold the bottom edge of your laptop but right where you would rest your wrists when using a laptop. If you have a thin laptop, the protrusions extend past the edges of your laptop and rest against your wrists. There are two USB ports on the left side, and one of them connects to the USB cable that powers the fans. It would be nice to have more ports. There is also a slider that increases and decreases the fan speed. With the Thermaltake fans on, my laptop actually got about 5 degrees cooler when idling, which helped a lot with the thermal throttling issue I was having. However, loud fans are too tough for me, so I am sending both devices back.
