Review on Bosch Sport II 2-5/8" Tachometer (Black Dial & Bezel) by Actron SP0F000025 by Alex Winnick

I bought a 1989 Yugo (that statement probably betrays my sanity or rating but bear with me) that I get my hands on from time to time. However, now that I have a tachometer, it's a bit difficult to drive the car and see if the engine is running exactly how I want it to. This sensor meets all requirements exactly. With a simple design, everything looks OEM, the sensor is very sensitive, it's accurate (tested on an ignition analyzer and both gauges showed the same readings), the instructions were very clear and all the necessary equipment was included in the package, including electrical installations . The problem with this sensor is the signal cable. Power, dimmer, and ground wires are long enough to get almost anywhere. However, the signal wire (in this case to the negative side of my ignition coil) was barely long enough. That's the Yugo I'm putting this thing in: the car is a little over 12 feet long, it's tiny. I don't understand how this wire is supposed to reach the coil in the much larger engine compartment, you have to splice the wire. And while it's not necessarily a big deal, every time you splice a wire you create a potential point of failure or noise. Why they couldn't add an extra 2-3 feet to the wire I don't understand and that would have raised this caliber to 5 stars. So conclusion: the price is great. There are cheaper options out there but I don't think they look as good and many reviews suggest that cheap competitors have accuracy/responsiveness issues. Everything is there for the installation, it took me about 30 minutes, including the wiring. (However, this is a basic wire laying machine, so your mileage may vary). This gave me more enjoyment of this small car and made it much easier to adjust the carburettor. And I can let someone else drive it without worrying about them overloading it. In short, a great budget sensor that I'm very happy with, apart from the signal cable length issue (which can be solved fairly easily, if inelegantly).
