Everything worked great at first. After 6 months the drain valve started dripping. I reversed the valve and reinstalled it with teflon tape and stopped the leak. For another 8 months everything was fine. I drained it regularly, about every six months when I changed other filters or when I saw some kind of sediment in it. Today, a few hours after I got home, I heard a strange noise in my garage. Without warning, and after not interacting with the unit for over a month, the bottom thread holding the drain valve snapped completely and water spray flooded my garage. I expected this to take longer, and while I know nothing lasts forever, I assumed failure would start with a minor leak rather than catastrophic failure. Especially for the $70 I paid for it. I would only recommend this if you have it installed over a sink or other drain otherwise use a more durable product. It's not worth risking a flood to keep the sand off the filter. Since I haven't seen much mud in the past year, I'm not swapping it out.
