It couldn't be simpler. I opened the box, plugged the scanner into the socket under the dash of my Ford F150 and turned on the ignition (without starting the car). While sitting in my truck, I downloaded ODB Fusion ($9.99) to my iPhone. I went to Settings, Wi-Fi and connected to an OBD device. I opened the app, ran a diagnostic and saw that the engine had failed on 2 cylinders causing 2 warnings and 2 "permanent" warnings. I reset the errors and the light on the dashboard went out. BUT constant warnings remained. I unplugged the device, drove a few miles, and then plugged it back in. "Permanent" misfires are gone (because the car no longer misfires). Problem solved.
