I love these 3 sizes of bags. They were ideal for my jewelry I recently cleaned. I read that you should keep your jewelry sealed to slow the development of tarnish on sterling silver pieces. Even if your jewelry is not made of silver, it's still good practice to use this method. However, I also noted that some plastics emit vapors that can pit and discolor metal and corrode the surface of pearls and certain other gems. I also let my jewelry sit for 2 days before putting them in these bags just so to avoid moisture. I dried each piece with a soft cloth are cleaning but it's impossible to remove any water or moisture in all those cracks and crevices. I use them for other arts and crafts or even some sewing essentials in my sewing box. They are made of 2 mil plastic which is good for what I needed them for. 5 mil would be like what our drivers' license used to be made out of so that may help you judge the thickness.
