Review on 🎧 Plantronics PL-84004-01 Savi W720m Multidevice Headset for Enhanced Landline Telephone Experience by Gelin Battle

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This headset has everything I've come to expect from Plantronics

Setup and installation was very easy, no driver download required (I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64bit for reference). Proven functionality on PC, Android Mobile and Avaya IP Phone 4625SW. Here are some helpful items: Before purchasing, I called Plantronics to complete my research. I wanted to know what the difference is between the SAVI-720 and the SAVI-720M as I couldn't find a comparison chart that exactly shows the difference (marketing terms aside). I've found the only difference is how the headset identifies itself to the PC. According to Plantronics, there was no improvement in audio quality or additional features in the M version. Version 720M has a different enum that allows Windows to load drivers without having to manually download them from Plantronics; and includes presence features on MS softphones. According to Plantronics, the price should be the same for both models (RRP is the same). I recommend buying the 720M instead of the 720 for easier installation on a PC, even if you don't plan to use the Microsoft client software (you don't need to use Microsoft Lync, OCS or other MS softphones to get the full Performance to take advantage of the 720M). Of particular note, this headset is binaural mono, not stereo. There are reviews complaining about the sound quality of music and the lack of stereo sound. If the buyer's expectations are primarily related to entertainment, then this headset is not for you. Plantronics is famous for its office/business equipment and the SAVI line was developed for this purpose. Plantronics Hub software is optional and installed manually for 720 or M versions. This updates the firmware and also offers a taskbar interface that shows the battery level and allows you to adjust settings such as voice quality and gain. Note that the desk phone audio is set to narrowband by default; This is to extend battery life. It can be switched to broadband, which gives a much 'fuller' sound, but this reduces overall talk time. (I haven't tested broadband except for comparison, so I don't have stats on how much shorter the battery life is). The battery life on the default settings is incredible. I work 10 hours a day and I spend 90% of that day on my phone. At the end of the day, the battery gauge is between 75% and 50% (with an actual minimum talk time of more than 7 hours) *Battery gauge is updated every 25%*
