Since it's nice and long and you want to see the LEDs.

BIG WARNING! Don't be an idiot and wrap it around the steering column. Problem? Do you run a cable somewhere, right? So since it's nice and long and you want to see the LEDs on your OBD, what better way than right under your gauges. Except these LEDs are too bright so move them down to the top of the steering column. ONLY do this while driving. (as the MAYHEM guy suggested<:)) Then park and drive to your destination. Now get out and start your car. Put it the other way around. WAIT. OH. NO! I don't have a shifter anymore! No REAR WHEEL, no MOTOR, NOTHING. Now you're going nowhere! OBD unlocked the electronic shifter from the steering column of my BMW! How? When you park the car, your steering wheel retracts nicely to make it easier for you to get out. Yes, but if there's something between the dash and the shifter, then that plastic shifter isn't there, or at least it's broken. I was able to use a toothpick to move the slide switch that was now open and drive home. I then had to disconnect the battery, remove the airbags without blowing them up and killing myself, remove the steering wheel, and then repair the control box with epoxy. I still have to reset some fault codes as the switch "messed up" once while driving before I fixed it. He was in an odd position that the computer clearly didn't like. Since then he says to be very careful and service the gearbox as soon as possible. I'm not worried as I know I made the mistake about a month ago and the car drives fine. That means if another new transmission error occurs later, regardless of my switching error, I will never see it. [Be careful with computer codes on BMWs. --- Just change the viscosity after replacing the SAME BMW gear oil with a new one. Now the computer makes the car COMPLETELY uncontrollable at normal speed. (BMW says it never needs to be changed, which is stupid because it wears out). The car WILL NOT run normally until a few PROPER resets have been performed, in my case by a knowledgeable BMW mechanic.]

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Annoying
