Edit: works. Tested it on an old laptop. I bought bootmod3 but didn't know my laptop doesn't have an ethernet port so I couldn't test it. I've seen PDF instructions on how to do this; However, in this manual, pins 4 and 5 are short-circuited, which is not the case with this device. I'll report back once I have the network adapter.
