Review on McKleinUSA R Series, Roosevelt, Top Grain Cowhide Leather, 17-Inch Patented Detachable Wheeled Laptop Briefcase, Black (84555), One Size by Jack Ford

An almost exact replacement for the similar Wilson bag (no detachable wheels).

This purchase is a very good replacement for the now discontinued Wilson Leather brand bag which was purchased in 2002 (11 years ago). The telescoping handle mechanism, stitching and front struts failed. Only the telescopic mechanism of the handle made the old backrest finally unusable. Removable McKlein wheels are a new feature for me. So far, so good. A pocket "raincoat” is hidden between the body and wheel assembly. When received, the new McKlein Roosevelt bag was 1 inch less deep (front to back) than the Wilson bag. I was a little offended by that. However, I did find that there is an "expandable zipper" that allows the bag to open that extra inch. I am pleased that this bag is a replacement in form and function. I use it on business trips, not as a laptop bag. The laptop travels in its own pocket on this suitcase as he lugs it across the airport. Since it's smaller than carry-on, I usually find a place to stash it in the overhead bins and occasionally rearrange other items. It contains several shirts, a pair of pants, extra underwear and various personal items. I carry a strap or bungee cord with me in case I need to securely attach a separate bag to the handles when they are extended. Lately I've also been traveling with a backpack, which can also be attached to the extended carrying handle. Really, my only concern is the durability of the elongated handle.
