It does exactly what it promises - no power eSATA connector and USB -Power connection. why do you need it 1. Native eSATA interface with eSATA speed faster than USB-32. You need a SATA interface so you can turn off the power yourself. Why is this needed? Because. If you have a Samsung SSD and need a secure erase, you will see the message "Frozen SSD". Samsung wants you to leave the drive plugged in (data channels) and power it off and then plug it back in, which clears the "hard drive frozen" message. On my ThinkPad, this turns off the system before you can plug it back in. This cable allows you to turn off the power via USB only. Since my drive is a Samsung EVO-850, this was the only solution to run Samsung Secure Erase.
