I already had an old 5.8GHz Uniden phone, but having recently switched to AT&T's U-Verse voice service, I wanted something that had a voicemail indicator as well as longer range than the 5.8GHz technology can offer, although it doesn't sacrifice sound quality. This phone meets those requirements. It is only logical that the industry switched to a lower frequency band (1.9 GHz) as lower frequencies pass obstacles better. In this case, the rule "the higher the betterβ does not apply. My 5.8GHz analog phones had great audio quality, but the range was huge. I couldn't speak from the base at the other end of the house. Dead spots are a thing of the past with this new Vtech. The sound quality is very good, which is quite an achievement considering how thin the phones are. They are so thin and light that they almost look like toys. However, my favorite feature is the voicemail indicator, which integrates perfectly with the U-Verse messaging system. At least one reviewer (maybe it was a different model) complained that the voicemail wait indicators had to be reset periodically. But I suspect your problem is with the telecom and not the phone as it is your telecom system that sends the on/off signal to trigger the lights. A fun - but yes, I admit, challenging - test I tried was logging into the U-Verse voicemail web interface, which allows you to play your messages on your computer (e.g. when you're at of work). I had a new voicemail, so I logged into the web portal and hit the play button on my new message. The second I clicked the play button with the mouse, the voicemail lights on the base and handsets went out. Very well done U-verse! Enough talking, here are the pros and cons: Pros: * very good sound quality (both listening and speaking) * voicemail indicators on the handsets and base work well * very light, thin handsets * recordings in Das on one handset created phone book is automatically copied to another*. When someone calls from your phone book list, the handsets will display the name you assigned them (e.g. "Mom and Dad", not the caller ID version). Many cell phones do this and it's nice to see this feature on a cordless phone. * Excellent range as you would expect from DECT 6.0 technology. That's right, you don't pay anything for an answering machine. Why do you need it when you have free voicemail? *LCD screen is pretty basic (although blue backlight is good) *Menu is clunky (but useful) *Ringtones aren't fancy *No distinctive ringer functionality *No auto-answer (although it answers every key) *No wall mount (but it is fairly compact and doesn't take up much counter/desk space) Overall this is a great phone for the money. The phones are sleek and look a lot more expensive than they are and deliver good sound quality. It should integrate perfectly with your phone company's voicemail service, and its range is excellent.
