In general, it will work. I would say this is a BIG size for most preschoolers. Velvet is so soft and cozy. Mattress is lumpy and not designed for long or continuous sleep but suitable for a baby's sleepover. He could definitely use an egg crate or a large piece of styrofoam inside to crack it open. Not as complete as I expected. Really very disappointed with the price but we will make it work and I KNOW we will get every penny using it with our 3 kids and their friends! I like the look and the feel.
