I rarely write product reviews on Revain (and I buy A LOT from Revain) but I have to make an exception with this product. My wife and I cut the cable and transferred everything about a year ago, and when Aereo came on the scene we hit the ground running. We thought our cable days were finally over. When the Supreme Court arrested Aereo last week, I had a terrifying thought that I might have to return to cable (God forbid). I was thinking of an indoor antenna but didn't think it would work. I live in Upper East Manhattan (Yorkville) on the 11th floor. My apartment is in the northeast corner of the building, facing east. I'm surrounded by high-rise buildings, including a 40-story one just across the street to the south that completely blocks the south view (and the Empire State Building, which is where almost every OTA TV signal comes from). I figured that despite all that concrete and steel, I wasn't going to get a decent signal. Hell, I had to buy a WiFi booster to get a decent WiFi signal in my living room because the router was in another room. So I started researching indoor HD antennas. The price range is absurd, anywhere from $6.00 to $100.00 or more. The reviews for this product on Revain and elsewhere seemed promising, but the price confused me a bit. But I thought: A hundred dollars is still a lot less than a never-ending cable TV bill. I bought it with the idea that if that didn't work I would return it and cover the restocking fee (if any) and return postage costs. Of course, as always, the product came from Revain on Monday. connected yesterday. Let me just say that with a caveat or two, it's pretty easy to connect. The coaxial cable supplied with the device has typical threaded ends. MY TV (Samsung) has an RCA connector for the antenna. Luckily I kept all the cables and adapters that came with the TV (quite a lot) and heck there was an adapter to hide the screw in the RCA at the end. type connector at the end. So check the back of your TV to see if your type is threaded or RCA. This can save you trouble. The instructions say to scan existing channels. I hope you have kept the manual that came with your TV as you will need it. After looking through the instructions for the TV for about half an hour, I finally found a tiny paragraph that barely explains how to find channels. That being said I started the scan (takes a few minutes) on low and lo and behold it came back with about 58 channels. Let me say here that many of these channels will be useless to you unless you are equipped with the ability to speak multiple languages including Spanish, Chinese, Korean and others. HOWEVER, the ones you're looking for (CBS, NBC, ABC, WOR, NET) are all there and the reception is IMPRESSIVE. I cannot express how stunned I was. I stood in front of the TV with my mouth open. The picture was better than anything we've received via cable before. Here's why: I learned that cable companies need to compress the signal before sending it down their lines. OTA broadcasts are not compressed; So you get a really high-resolution image. The difference is amazing. If I can get that kind of signal where I live (surrounded by concrete and steel, not south facing) then I don't see how you can't do it the same or better unless you live in a bank vault in the basement...if you live in Manhattan. Can't give this thing enough stars. Yes, it's one of the most expensive plans, but think about it compared to your monthly cable TV bill. No competition! (One sad note: I saw USA lose to Belgium on the 41st [Univision]. Yes it was in Spanish which I don't speak but it was the World Cup and IT WAS FREE!)
