I don't think anyone pays attention when they make these sweaters. Based on many reviews, I bought a large dog for my 15 lb, 9 month old Boston Terrier. The length was perfect but it was really tight around her chest. She's still growing so I ordered XL. The chest is still a bit tight, but the tail of the sweater hangs over the back, covering the tail. it looks stupid I will fold the end under the sweater and add 2 or 3 stitches to better match her length. I have read all the Boston Terrier reviews and the size difference is amazing. The 17lb BT is perfect for the medium. The 15lb BT fits L perfectly. I think you need to order 2 sizes and see which one fits best. I was going to return the L but it fits my 10lb Shih Tzu perfectly. Another thing is NOT fleece. This is thin flannel. I have fleece, I know what fleece is, and it's not fleece. I have a set of sheets called Fleece but it's the same material as this sweater. It's more like the felt/flannel stuff we used to cut out Christmas trees and glue them onto thick paper when I was in elementary school. The fleece is fluffier, thicker and softer. This is normal for my Shih Tzu as she has a thick long coat but not for my Boston. She will be wearing a sweater under her winter coat. She doesn't like being outside and absolutely hates the cold, so a sweater under her coat isn't out of place when temperatures drop into the single digits here in upstate New York.
