Review on High-Quality Amazon Basics 16-Gauge Speaker Wire Cable, 50 Feet - Reliable and Affordable Sound Solution by Mike Goodwin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This is not copper wire. This is CCA.

This wire is not copper but copper clad aluminum (CCA). CCA wire has higher resistance than copper wire. You can use it normally, but be aware that the distance you can travel with CCA wire is less than copper wire of the same gauge. Educate yourself before running longer distances (20+ feet). For 10-20 foot applications at 8 ohms everything is fine. As a rule of thumb, when using bare copper wire, 16 gauge, 8 ohm (speaker) wire should be no longer than 48 feet. Many home speakers use an impedance of 6 ohms. At 6 ohms, the maximum length is 36 feet. The CCA wire resistor is about one size smaller, than copper wire, so CCA 16 AWG wire should not exceed 32 inches at 8 ohms and 24 inches at 6 ohms. CCA and copper.
