I ordered this because I've always wanted a curling iron but didn't know it was the right tool to create that big beachy wave effect I kept wanting to figure out! I ordered a heating tool with waves thinking it would make them, but it just looked like one big crimp. I'm just so happy to finally find out! My hair is thin, curly, bleached and reaches the middle of my back. My bangs go a little above my chin. Using this on my bangs creates the perfect waves to frame my face. I mean perfect! It's 1.25 inches, so it's a bigger barrel. These sizes never hold big curls in my hair (if it were a regular curling iron with a clip). But I know that with a smaller barrel I wouldn't look the way I have. I have to get used to it a little bit. Due to the fact that I'm working on getting my hair healthy again and actually growing it out instead of splitting it, I won't be using it on high settings. I basically started from the lowest level and increased it. slowly and testing until I found the lowest setting that would hold the wave. I know very well that a high setting will probably melt my hair like I did with other straighteners many years ago. My hair type doesn't take high heat, since I didn't heat it up too much I didn't have a problem with the curling iron getting too hot. I think if you practice enough you won't need a glove anyway. I have only used it open but you can fold it up for use or storage. The guide is comprehensive and helpful. I'm just so glad I found out how women got this look! I would use various ha products that act as a protective layer as well as something that helps keep your curls longer. Having used heaters on my hair for over 30 years, I have learned that the look is essential without a product, but it takes a lot of trial and error to find one that works for your particular hair type. Especially if you use a larger keg. Definitely recommend.
