Corroded batteries on musical toys

My 16 month old nephew loves keys and remote controls. He wants to play with all the keys and loves to push every button he can find in the house. This toy was practically made for him. He loves it and when he first got it he refused to let anyone else touch it and carried it with him everywhere. After about a week it stopped making any noise so my mom opened it up to change the batteries and found that the batteries already installed in the toy were corroded. My brother cleaned it, checked all the contacts and put in new batteries and it works great. The toy is excellent, durable and makes many different sounds. As for my nephew, this is the best toy ever and I am the best aunt in the world BUT I would like to warn you before giving this toy to your child you should check the batteries to make sure they are not corroded. We may have come across a poor-quality set, but if you're planning on giving this toy (or any toy that uses batteries) to a child who can put the toy in their mouth, check the condition of the batteries first. I think we would normally throw this toy away but it was my nephew's favorite toy and my brother is an electrical engineer so he knows how to deal with rusted batteries and knowing it he could build something if he could open the battery compartment would have been shot.

Pros
  • Portable and durable: Play with the durable and reliable light and sound buttons at home or take them with you and pretend to be in a car or stroller.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
