I bought this device before, about ten years ago. I've used it in my basement for all these years and it's a great gadget for me. When my top unit (an old GE radio) recently broke down, I went shopping and couldn't find anything better than what I already had, so I just bought a new one for the top floor. There is no backlight, the numbers really do glow. Saving stations is very easy. AM reception is better. It scans, but what's the difference, I already know the channels I want. There is an input and output for headphones, but I don't use them. The weather bar is programmable, very clear and strong. FM is just great. Every detail of my ten year old basement works and works like new. I hope my new one too. Insert 4 cells and forward if you want. It has an analogue structure with a digital display and is a very useful system. During battery operation, the display is dimmed to save power. Once again the AM reception is EXCELLENT!
