Yesterday morning while I was heating up oatmeal (which I do almost every morning) the microwave oven started making a loud electrical noise, immediately followed by a large amount of white smoke emanating from the front top section just below the microwave came control panel. . I immediately turned it off, opened the drawer and took out the food. We didn't try to use it again for fear of re-igniting. Based on my research here, other reviews and Houzz, this is a known issue with Sharp for this 2016 microwave model. I purchased this unit in April 2016 and my date of manufacture is January 2016. I have contacted Sharp through their online customer service center and will update this review as my application progresses. Updated June 26, 2018. informed me that my device was out of warranty for 1 year and they would not do anything for me ("so you will be responsible for the cost of repairing the deviceβ). They were also unable to get me an "authorized" service/repair company in my area. After replying that this is a "known issue" at Sharp, somehow I can know that the used parts don't have the same fault if I repair the unit at my own expense (which I'm willing to do). and cause the same problem. I was told to have the unit checked by a service technician and it was declared beyond repair. You can ask the service technician to send photos along with an assessment of additional options. At the moment I don't know what "additional options" there might be. since Sharp doesn't seem interested in helping me here.
