Pretty vita with cool sumi-e ink on the back. OLED display (I'm pretty indifferent as I haven't seen LCD models, but it doesn't look any better than my LCD phone or tablet). Feels solid and high quality. The new 2000 Vita simply looks cheaper to keep costs and weight down. Way cooler than any of the US Vita systems, like the pathetic Borderlands version, for about the same price. I haven't actually played Toukiden yet, but I'm working on other Vita games on my backlog. No compatibility issues with western games. Complaints? An OLED display has a very limited field of view before the contrast drops drastically. I don't have any modern LCDs with this problem. Consider that it's like having to look directly at the (not "new") 3DS in 3D to get a proper view. Otherwise it's beautiful. Sony needs to get a sense of standards and compatibility. At least they got it right with the 2000 model by replacing the dumb proprietary USB cable with a standard cable. Sony memory is a total rip off and has always been a plagiarism. To make matters worse, launching the game is almost mandatory and *no* on older systems. At least the 2000 model includes some internal storage. The main advantage of buying the US package is the memory card that comes with it, but you can find new and used 4GB cards for about two meals at a fast food restaurant. I've come across a few quirks with the Vita. Operating system, these are minor annoyances and bugs. One of them brings it out of standby and completely loses volume control without restarting. The overall UI design feels clunky and games don't make good use of the touchscreen in combination with hard buttons. There seem to be no human interface guides for game programming, or they are buggy. I don't like the oval buttons, which fortunately have been made round on newer models. I wish the analog sticks were above the number keys instead of below. This improves comfort and reduces the chance of being accidentally hit with sticks while playing. You have no warranty on the Japanese system in North America. So if you are unlucky or misusing your machines, don't buy this. Buy the Borderlands bundle instead. I'd really like to see Sony, as a global company, respect at least some of the warranties on Japanese systems as they aren't limited editions which aren't on offer here. Otherwise it's a great system and probably the only real way to play all the modern RPGs that aren't coming out on the 3DS or PS3. But if you don't like RPGs, you probably want to stay away from Vita. Also, SCEA seems to throw the ball at Vita. It can only be a matter of time before they ignore it completely. I like it.
