Review on Enhanced Measurements: ๐Ÿ“ Extech DT60M Integrated Pythagorean Tool by Brian Schultz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A must have tool for the DIY or professional

The Extech Laser Range Finder was God sent for some recent home improvement projects. It works great and has features that can meet professional needs. The basic operations are very simple. Turn on the device by pressing the "Measure" button. Aim at the target, level it with the built-in (horizontal only) bubble level and press the button again for an accurate reading. The laser is low enough to be measured in relation to the window frame, which is very valuable! My house has an open floor plan with small walls that are lined up asymmetrically. There are also many unusually large windows. We recently decided to repaint the whole house and my wife wanted these small walls to be decorated with different colors. I quickly realized that I would end up buying more paint than I needed (at $45 a gallon) and wasting a lot of money if I didn't have exact measurements. I used Extech's square meter function to accurately calculate the area of my wall. This feature prompts you to measure the length and width and displays the exact area in square feet. If you think that's cool, then you'll really appreciate that the device can keep adding square feet for additional walls up to a maximum of 1,000 square feet or square meters. You can also subtract the area of the entire wall from this sum, for example, and subtract the area of the window or door. Another place where Extech saved me money is on an upcoming flooring project. Two builders overestimated me by 200-250 sqm. feet on 1500 sq. ft. ft. This made me a little suspicious, and if Extech hadn't made the area calculations so easy and accurate, I might have come up with similar measurements. They timidly changed the offers and saved me about $2,500. Extech has continuous measurement, volume measurement, various types of Pythagorean measurements, and stakeout (fence post/timber frame) functionality. The device can also store 20 readings and has an efficient backlight. What was a bit of a hassle, and I mean "a little" really, is that the method of accessing the feature settings and menu options seems a bit archaic. It still feels like a digital product developed from an analog product, rather than a digital product from scratch. The device gives you the option of taking measurements from above or below. I have found that I use the top of the device more than the bottom, but there is no item in the menu to make this adjustment. I have to manually turn off the bottom measurement every time I restart the device... However, I agree that the bottom option is the correct default. What cannot be overemphasized is that laser metering makes you independent. No more pull-hold-align-push-pull-hold tape to measure and no more depending on a spouse who can never figure out why tapes need to be held in a straight line :D. Recommended - I don't leave the house without one it.
