Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens, black by Anastazja Orebska ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The purchase was not entirely successful, there were minor problems in use.

Before him I used 50 1.8, there is a difference. Blurs beautifully, draws gorgeous. Misses in front and back focus are different in different shooting conditions, fortunately this is corrected on 50D. It is not very pleasant that the plastic body - when switching from auto to manual focus, it even crunches. Focusing speed is good, but not great. USM is not the fastest here. There is no significant difference in the picture between 1.8 and 1.4, so I think the price is somewhat overpriced. Adequate price would be, I think, around 8 thousand. after several months: The workmanship turned out to be worse than expected. After a few months of use, there was a problem with focusing. For example, in the manual: you turn the focusing ring, the lens moves up to a certain point (for example, 3 meters), and that's it! You continue to rotate the ring - but the lens no longer moves, and in order to "come to life", you need to shake the lens. I handed it over to the service - the diagnosis was "deformation of the focusing barrel" and some kind of rail or something like that, despite the fact that it was used extremely carefully. Now focusing is somehow not clear, when rotated, the sensations are not smooth, but shaking, like on rails. I regret that I didn’t pay attention to analogues from Sigma, for example, when buying . I liked 1.8 somehow more . It was similar in assembly, but it costs 3 times cheaper, it was absolutely not a pity.

Pros
  • Aperture USM bokeh
Cons
  • Plastic housing Slight play of the focus ring
