Nearby not quite right

I cook a lot of BBQ probably 3-4 times a week. This is my second grill temperature fork. It has been running for some time now (over a year). It has a number of issues that I don't like. The temperature shows about 10 degrees less than my previous similar fork (differential mark). It reacts fairly slowly to the temperature of the meat, often taking 30-40 seconds to get a stable reading (you need to make sure your hand isn't over the grill or you'll be cooking too). The auto-off feature is *really* annoying; It's time, which means you might be in the middle of a temperature reading and it just randomly turns off. Turning it back on isn't hard, is it? The fork itself is a solid piece of metal. It somehow spreads the heat. The problem is that the meat is usually hotter on the outside than in the middle. So you get readings somewhere between the two and you have to guess (my old one had a special metal tip to take the temperature so you could be sure the reading was deep in the flesh). Also, the plastic holding part of the connector is cracked (white in the picture, mine is a bit blue). Doesn't seem to be a problem yet, but it will. It shouldn't crack. The battery life is pretty good. So the fork is fine and does what it should. However, there are better ones.
