Review on WoneNice Retro Digital Flip Down Clock: Unique Internal Gear Operation in Sleek Black Design for a Classic Feel by Courtney Knight

Nice watch but could be better

This is a really cool watch and it keeps the time really well. Two problems: First, it's a bit noisy. It makes a sound once a minute when the numbers are flipped. You probably won't notice it across the room, but you will on a nearby shelf. It's actually not that loud. The second problem is that you MUST use zinc-carbon batteries. You can not use alkaline batteries, otherwise the clock will be damaged. The electronics rely on the higher internal resistance of zinc-carbon batteries to limit the current. Alkaline batteries have lower internal resistance and if you use them, too much current will flow when flipping the watch and eventually the flip motor will be damaged. I think this voids the warranty. You can put a 1 ohm resistor in series with the alkaline battery to prevent this, but this should really have been built into the clock in the first place. It was easier to order zinc-carbon batteries only by special order. They are not expensive.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
