Great sound at an affordable price!

A little background before we start. I wanted to upgrade my 20+ year old TEAC receiver to something with more modern features and streaming capabilities. My initial research led me to purchase a used Marantz NR1606 receiver. It had all the features I wanted at a decent resale price, so I figured I'd buy it. The only problem was. Sound. Compared to my old TEAC, the Marantz sounded empty and soulless, like my speakers weren't living up to their potential. I have a pair of Athena F2.2 speakers, a great pair of full sounding budget speakers that I have owned for years. Marantz let them down, even after running the calibration program and adjusting the EQ and tone controls, my system just sounded muffled. Take the Arylic S50 Pro+. I've seen a few reviews of the A50 but the amp section isn't strictly needed so the S50 seemed perfect. I could use it to add modern features to my existing system, or use it as a standalone preamp with other components, which I ended up doing. He currently runs a Crown XLS 402 powering the Athenas and the sound is powerful, controlled and full. It's cleaner and more articulate than my old TEAC, but still retains the mid/mid bass that the Marantz totally lacked. I can't get enough of the sound. Let's get to the properties. The S50 Pro+ is a pretty basic, no-frills device. It has 1 set of RCA inputs to connect my CD player, an optical input which I use for my TV, a line out and a subwoofer to connect a powered subwoofer. I am currently using a larger VMPS subwoofer powered by a Face Audio F1200TS amplifier. Needless to say the neighbors love it too lol. Setup was very easy, using my phone and connecting the S50 to my home Wi-Fi network. The remote control is simple but has all the necessary controls. In addition, the 4Stream application has all the necessary controls. The onboard EQ is great when you need an extra boost in bass and treble when listening at low volumes, or just want to tweak things in your listening room. By all accounts, this is a great streaming option that offers quality features and sound at a price well below anything else in its class.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
