This is one of the crappy pieces of furniture I have ever bought. The surface is rough and varies in color. There were pieces of wood that got lost and had to be glued back on before we could put them back together. It is not strong enough for a child to use as a toy box. The lid hinges were both for the left side. I bought this to hold a deceased child's clothes, blankets etc and I hope it will last a long time as it will only be used by one adult. I will not be purchasing any more from Lipper International and recommend that no one purchase this product with the intention of using it on a young child. Absolutely not worth your money.
