I didn't want to wait two days so I decided to buy one today. Notebook manufacturers point out that this is how they produce a cheaper version of a premium product. I have the 128GB model and highly recommend not asking $550 unless that's the absolute limit of what you can spend. Let's start with the screen. Despite the reduced resolution compared to the Surface Laptop 3, this screen STILL looks amazing. Beautiful colors, the 3:2 aspect ratio is REALLY nice and I really wish laptop manufacturers had the picture and are already building 3:2 computers for people who do more work than watching YouTube videos and haven't gotten to use the Surface yet. A pen with that screen I think Microsoft figured if you really had to buy a $140 pen, you could probably afford the Surface Laptop 3. I agree, since this laptop isn't really geared towards the high-end crowd, it's more of a budget computer. Keyboard feels great! The keys are not soft and not too loud. Just the right noise balance to feel. The bad news is that the keyboard isn't backlit. This is understandable to a degree, given that they need to deliver the long battery life advertised, and backlit keyboards drain a lot of power over time. The keys feel comfortable and are evenly spaced. No bullshit with short layers, although the tab is a bit smaller, but that's ok. The fingerprint welcome windows are really good and much faster than on my phone. It gets a little warm on the lap, but not too hot. And it only gets loud when I try to test it. Otherwise, it's nice and quiet for video chatting, typing, or general browsing and light work. Also, if you don't have the $550 version, disable Windows S mode immediately. Don't get mad at Microsoft, but the Windows Store sucks. My only real complaint is that I really wish there was an Alcantara option. I love the soft feel of Alcantara keyboards having used more expensive devices a few times. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend people to buy the $700 version.
