I give this high rating for being so easy to install on Ubuntu when so many other items are are difficult to use with Linux. I installed this on a 64-bit Ubuntu 13.04 desktop. Actually install is not the right word, there was nothing to do. I just plugged it in and within 10 seconds it was working and I didn't even press a button or any key on the keyboard. My Samba server running on Ubuntu noticed there was a new card and switched almost immediately with almost no downtime for my clients. The driver is integrated into newer kernels. I have an old laptop with an internal 10/100 NIC that I use as a home server. I needed a gigabit speed network, the only way I could add it to my laptop was through the USB port. I knew the USB 2 port could only handle up to 480Mbps, so I knew I wouldn't be able to hit the full 1000Mbps. Unfortunately after installation. When running speed tests, I'm only getting about 150 megabits of actual throughput to or from this device. I assume it's still 50% faster than on an internal 100 card. But it's still disappointing as I don't understand why it doesn't come close to USB 2.0's top speed which is 480Mbps. At least now I can watch higher resolution videos on my home network without crashing. , but 150Mbps is barely enough and I was hoping for better results.
