Review on Mustpoint Enclosure Caddy Adapter MacBook by Richard Cuneo

The Mustpoint Caddy USB 3.0 SSD Enclosure Adapter listing states that it is compatible with a wide range of MacBook OEM SSDs. At the time of purchase, there weren't any product reviews to confirm or disprove this claim, so I tried my luck. My goal was to recover data from an original SSD that was removed from a water damaged MacBook Air A1466 mid 2013. Opening the case requires a Phillips screwdriver and two USB tabs - one for power and one for transmission. There were no instructions or other documents included. While it's fairly easy to use, it's always nice to do at least some paperwork. There are two slots to insert an SSD and a screw to fix the installed drive. My SSD fit into one of the two slots but didn't line up with the screw hole to hold it in place and was actually so long that the case wouldn't close with the drive attached. This was my first clue that something was wrong, but I left the case open, hoping it would still connect and allow data transfer. When I plugged in the power cord, a red light on the case started blinking, and when I plugged in the USB port to transfer data to my work MacBook, the light turned solid purple. That gave me some hope, but in the end the drive was never realized. I can confirm that the SSD wasn't the problem because I tried it the next day with the OWC Envoy Pro and it worked great. inaccurate, making it unclear which SSDs this case is actually compatible with. The included screwdriver only works with the case, not the MacBook itself. The OWC case uses the same screws as the MacBook. There are no instructions. Requires a separate power connector, not a data cable that also supplies power (like in an OWC case). The power connector fits very flat and very loosely into the case, making it very easy to remove. In short, even if I didn't have any compatibility issues, I'd still be hesitant to trust this SSD enclosure to contain anything moderately important, especially since there are far better options out there.
