The Saturn ignition cylinder is a complex mechanism and will wear out after intensive use. In that case, you can either take it off, give it a thorough cleaning, oil it up thoroughly and hope for the best, or replace it with a new lock cylinder. Fumbling around fitting a new cylinder for your old keys, which isn't always easy when your old keys are old and worn out! The disadvantage, of course, is that you wind up two different car keys - one for the doors and one for the ignition. Another downside is that the ignition key is actually from Saturn for a different year! This ignition lock cylinder uses a key designed for a 1996 Saturn, but the cylinder will also fit 1997-1999 (and possibly others) Saturns that use a different key shape. However, the cylinder is easy to install and works like new. I'm happy and my daughter doesn't mind taking an extra key.
