Housing and keyboard are separate. The keyboard has a built-in rechargeable battery that takes 6 hours for the first charge and 2 hours for a second charge. Connects very quickly via Bluetooth 3.0. Battery performance is good. Haven't needed a charge yet (I always turned off the keyboard after each use. Reconnecting to the iPad was almost instantaneous). The keyboard comes with a dust cover to protect it from dust when not in use. I didn't feel any difference to other Bluetooth keyboards when typing. The case is well made and durable. Ipad can easily stand in the case at any angle. Overall it's worth the money.
