Review on Panasonic KX-TG4733B DECT 6.0 Cordless 📞 Phone Review: Answering System, Black, 3 Handsets by Marshall Lindner

Revised March 26, 2014 This is a new model for 2012 which appears to be a major product improvement. I've had issues with older versions of this phone in the store and couldn't bring myself to buy them. It actually looks and feels like a better product and judging by some of the changes I can say Panasonic is really listening to their customers' needs again. Attractive, clear, concise design. The base speaker, handset speaker, and handset speaker provide good sound quality. (Not great, but good) The handset mic (what other callers hear) is mediocre at best. My voice fades to a slight hum, making it a little harder to hear me. This is a minor flaw that has worsened over time. Both phones do. I know another Panasonic owner and she does too. Good quality news. The volume on this phone (all aspects) is too low for the hearing impaired. For us this is normal, but if you need a hearing aid it will not solve the problem. The base unit's volume is sufficient for a quiet room, but not enough for a noisy environment. You can listen to messages through the phone's speakerphone, which is slightly louder and clearer than the base station. (The KX-TG4742B seems to have a larger base speaker and could deliver better volume and was my second choice). When a call comes in, the handsets light up like a Christmas tree. Very easy to use in the dark as each key is pressed to illuminate all keys and display. It's great to have an external volume control on the side of the phone for when I need to make a quick volume adjustment. I work shifts and this phone doesn't have a kill button. I have to navigate through the menu and do 11 key presses to turn the ringer off and then 11 key presses to turn it back on. Come on Panasonic! Range test: With the base behind our house, I can walk 325 feet down the street before I start noticing any audio quality issues. At 400 feet the signal begins to drop off. Test Conditions: Small ranch with vinyl siding, flat lot and road, clear view of home with no buildings or trees in the way, no rain. Our record range was 1100 feet using a Southwestern Bell Freedom (FF-1700) phone in the 1980's. Pros: - Good sound. - Good quality news. - Excellent range. - Headphone jack! Wife REALLY likes this phone. Cons: - No bell switch. Every time I want to turn it off or on again, having to press 11 buttons is just too much. - There are ways to improve the sound quality of the speaker and microphone. Panasonic is perfectly capable of making a phone with great call quality and that's what I expected from the brand. The speaker at the base is too small. Conclusion: The quality of the outgoing voice has deteriorated so much that I would no longer buy it. It is in order.
