I read the reviews before buying but I was very interested in the situation with the ankle that doesn't look like a sock. I also looked for high arch trail running shoes and they were the cheapest. First of all, I LOVE the ankle socks entry (I can't think of a name right now, ok?). Neither gravel nor sand got into my boots. The cushion/arch support was pretty solid in my opinion. One star off because it's half a size too small for me. Most "my size" shoes are still too big for me, so if this one is too small for me, I recommend going up a full size. It loosened up for me after walking in it for about an hour.
