The problem I had was fixed. Time will tell if this is a long-term solution.

In the past my PS3 Slim had issues with stuttering and even random freezes in some games, but for the first time it actually crashed while playing multiple Blu-ray movies (the first 3 Indiana Jones movies) - each of them stopped playing at different running times, but constantly at those moments). Buying a new drive seemed like the best and cheapest option, and the process of replacing that drive wasn't too difficult (mostly removing/replacing screws, cables, and covers). There is a document in the box with some info and a link to their own YouTube video, but I ended up using a website called IFIXIT (16 step guide with pictures). This is a link to a section in another video showing the process of replacing the PCB (which is the easiest option to get everything working again). screws. You can probably remove it with heat and a thin hobby knife, but I tried and cracked the VOID text on it anyway. A couple of small Philips screwdrivers and a #8 Torx screwdriver (which is only used for the 3-4 screws on the underside of the front panel of the console). The screws on the underside of the console are covered with either plastic or rubberized sheets - they can be unscrewed with a "spudger" but I used a thin flathead screwdriver and didn't damage anything. Some of the internal screws (holding the PSU) were very tight, so I used a wrench on the handle of this screwdriver for extra torque. The new drive is similar to the old drive but lacks some buffer material. top plate (looks like sealant) and a few small things like masking off some parts. The rest is identical. Mine came with its own circuit board; I don't know how to flash or program them so I just replaced them. This was probably the most annoying part as one of the cables connects from the bottom, facing inwards AND has a little latch to keep it secure! I think like with cars, they designed it in such a way that it would be harder to fix yourself. When it was all done I watched the movies again and they played these previously frozen scenes. The documentation mentions a 6 month warranty so I would recommend anyone buying this to use it in as many games and movies as possible during that time.
