The previous review mentioned this issue but it's worth repeating. Used when roasting 3 batches of stews in a 3 liter porcelain Dutch oven. There was some spatter over the protective cover, but it was probably operator error - too much heat. Removing the seared meat was difficult because I had to move utensils (tried several) to get the meat out. Finally, I used two tools, one in each hand, to place the meat on the spoon to pull it out. Still not easy because both hands were in the cone. Lesson learned - Don't turn the heat up too high when browning and removing the stew as your hands will be inside the cone. Now I want one for my small 6" pan - I use it a lot more than the larger ones.
