Mortar and Pestle are made of real stone known as black granite or gabro (or a closely related igneous rock). This is not a classic pink granite, but a real quarry stone. I've used it every day since it arrived and so far I've used it to grind flax and chia seeds, ginger and turmeric roots, and garlic and jalapenos. .Unlike other products, it will not wear out or add stone dust to your food.
