Review on ๐ŸŽ Protege Riding Helmet by Ovation Equestrian-Helmets by Seth Gomez

So comfortable and light! Day and night out of old velvet helmets!

I've just started riding my friend's family horses again after a long break. When I was quite young I had a jumping accident which resulted in a fractured skull (despite wearing the correct helmet). When I returned to riding after healing from this injury, my teacher gave me a less energetic horse (read: a very, very old horse) that fell over while we were doing cavaletti exercises. My father got angry and I wasn't allowed to ride anymore. Well almost 30 years later I decided that I would like to ride with my boyfriend's family but I remember my helmet saved my life many years ago. So, as I grabbed my pants, gloves and boots, I set out to find a helmet too! I used a borrowed helmet for a while but wanted something bigger to fit me and went with this helmet. I wasn't disappointed and here's why: Wow it's been years since I've worn an old heavy velvet helmet and it's so light! I can't go back and make a comparison, but my old velvet helmet looked a bit like a fluffy bowling ball. It feels as light as a modern bicycle helmet. By the way, it has excellent ventilation holes. My old helmet had no ventilation, black, heavy - and damn I was sweating! This helmet is breathable compared to its weight and ventilation. The lining is soft and absorbs moisture generated during the ride, but also offers great comfort for the head. The borrowed helmet I wore prior to this purchase may have been a bit small, but it also had awkward exposed plastic parts that pinched my head with their harshness. Not comfortable! This helmet is comfortable to wear, and while it fits just right - it doesn't wobble much - I can even put a ponytail in it and barely feel it due to the padded interior. Please note: I have very fine to medium length hair so ladies with very thick or very long hair may not find this possible but I think they are used to it. Call it a good thing about fine hair! :ON! Even the chin strap has soft padding that attaches with velcro around the adjustable part of the strap to keep it from dangling and soften the strap. One thing though: it's not attached and can get lost if you treat your helmet roughly when you're not wearing it. Colours! I got pink because it was on sale and I got it for $28! but I'm kinda happy about the fun color. It's unique, I ride just for fun and it will definitely stand out like my helmet in gear! :-) Also, the color is pretty pretty - a soft dusty bubblegum pink. For the record, I have no idea how helmet measurements work, but I know that with hats these sizes, I usually take the average size, and I'm usually comfortable with a one-size-fits-all headgear. So I consider my head to be probably an average women's size and the M/L fits like a soft and comfortable dream. Conclusion: I got a great deal at $28, but this helmet is fantastically comfortable and feels well made. I sure hope I can never tell you if this is REALLY a good helmet or not if you understand my opinion but I think that after wearing it I would buy another one at full price if I had to. So for now it's highly recommended and if I spill water I'll let you all know how it goes, but I hope I don't have to! Good luck and hope this helps!
