The cover does thermally insulate the fridge from the environment. It does help the cool side initially. However, it also insulates the compressor side which ultimately leads to the heat being trapped inside. I noticed that with the cover on, the fridge keeps running for much longer and the compressor getting quite warm. As such it uses more energy. The works otherwise. I will have to modify it by cutoff the panel over the compressor.
