Good hardware but no mobile OCR and lousy software

Spoiler alert: I've decided to return this scanner. I really wanted to like him. This is what I was looking for in Scanner1. High quality, fast scanning2. Good OCR (Optical Character Recognition - the ability to convert a scanned document into searchable/editable text)3. The ability to connect to the scanner from more than one device via Wi-Fi, allowing multiple people in my family to use it4. Mobile scanning so I can scan something straight to my phone5. Ease of use in software and hardware, making going paperless easy and hassle-free6. Works well with Evernote7. Looks good on my table. My scanner has a permanent place on my desk to avoid paper - the bonus points for that are looking good. Here's how it's measured: 1. This device produces high-quality, fast scans. Scans up to 1200 dpi which is pretty cool. view.2. OCR is one of the main reasons I returned this car. OCR is not available when scanning to a mobile device. This feature is only available when using a computer. Also, text recognition on your computer is only possible if you save the PDF file for your computer. If you save to the cloud (Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, etc.), OCR is not available). Anything else requires more than one step: you have to save it to your computer first, and then to the cloud. This means, it's fine if you just save the PDF to your desktop. For me personally, an extra step of hosting data in the cloud is enough to defer scanning. It's a network scanner - it gets big bonus points for being able to connect to any of the devices I've thrown at it that were also on my Wi-Fi network. Remember - this thing isn't easy to set up, but you'll get the hang of it eventually. I was able to easily connect a Mac computer, an Android phone, and an iPhone.4. Mobile scanning works with any mobile device connected to the same Wi-Fi network. However, the functions are limited on mobile devices, for example the OCR mentioned above does not exist. You can use the iprint& scan” from Brother and see for yourself.5. The hardware on this machine seems great - it has nice features like a handy touchscreen. On the other hand, software is, "oh brother!", a hot mess! It crashes sometimes on my Mac (running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4) and is just clumsy to use. Depending on where you want to scan, not all features are available (e.g. the Scan to Cloud feature set). Also, there's no post-scan editing, meaning there's no way to easily fix crooked images and the like. 6. It works with Evernote. However, since you get fewer options when scanning directly into Evernote, I didn't bother too much. This is of course the most important thing: how it looks on my desk. The size is reasonable for how durable it is. It would be unfair to compare it to a compact scanner so I won't - I'm perfectly happy with the size of this thing and I live in a small apartment. The cream color is a bad choice - looks like it was made before I was born! I'm a design snooter and I prefer black or white - or any color at all other than "disgusting beige". like it was made before I was born!
